The municipality of Mondariz Balneario is the smallest in Spain with an area less than 2km, and exists thanks to its thermal springs. The man who first discovered the Mondariz waters was the local doctor, Dr. Domingo Blango Lage, who observed how the local peoplehealed their dermalogical injuries using these waters. Then he started to recommend the waters within his medical profession for theraputic ends. Mondariz has achieved the maximum score (3 gold stars) at the Superior Taste Award, a prize given by the International Taste & Quality Institute (iTQi) of Brussels.
