Saltspring Island Mussels are a hybrid of Mediterranean Mussel crossed with an Atlantic Blue Mussel.  They are grown in the Salish Sea off Saltspring Island, British Columbia, in the Strait of Georgia. The clean nutrient rich waters produce plump meats with a distinctly sweet taste.  Saltspring Island Mussel farm is the first sucessful mussel farm in British Columbia.  They go the extra mile pioneering hatchery and sustainable farming techniques to protect their pristine environment.  The Mussels are grown using eco-friendly cotton and coconut fiber ropes suspended in deep water from floating rafts, and they have replaced the petroleum fuel for the hydraulic engines with vegetable oil.
